New to live plants

Ok so I bought my first few plants last week. My question is, if there are more than one shoot coming out of the roots, can I separate them and move them to another tank to start a planted tank there too?

oh also, I had the hygrophila polysperma in the corner and it started growing towards the middle of the tank and upwards.... any idea why? More light there?

An easy way to make a bunch of hygrophilia shoots is to just lay the plant on its side. I have some hygrophilia weighted down on its side, and new shoots are coming up out of most if not all of the leaf nodes.

But I could cut the potted plant in 1/2 at the roots and take 1/2 in one tank and 1/2 in another tank?

Can you then sparate all these new shoots by cutting the original stem into segments?
