It's not even out of the box so I have a long way to go but I wanted to find out what type of fish to get so I could decorate it accordingly. I don't want anything that I already have in my sig but if anyone has had any fish that they have had good experiences with please tell me. I am seriously clueless on what to get. I am looking for an unusual fish that you can't find at places like wal-mart.

How about a few bumble bee gobies (probably about 3-4) and two dwarf puffers? Both only get about an inch long (possibly 1.5 inches), and are great to watch. I convinced MANY_A_MOLLY to get them, and she loves them. ;)

dixaisy930, have you kept Bumble bees? (Brachygobius doriae)

Quote from above link (liveaquariua): "Ideal tank mates include: Livebearers, Tetras, Danios, Barbs, Rasboras, Gouramis, Rainbowfish, Cory cats, and Plecos."

This is totally rubbish; first they wrote that the fish is living in brackish water, then they give some fish for tank mates, that don't live in brackish water at all...

10 gallons would be quite small for it, although it's small fish.

If "dwarf puffer" is Carinotetraodon travancoricus, then it isn't good tank mate with Bumble bee. It lives in fresh not brackish water. (And water isn't so alkaline either).

Here is some information about "dwarf puffer": http://www.rr.iij4u.or.jp/~kohda/en/en-dwarfpuffer.htm

Remember to keep cover closed, this fish can easily jump out of your tank. Don't either make them "to puff", because thay can die of it.

Edit. 1) However, Im not sure, are we talking about same fishes at all. Reason for this is simply; fish can have many different names in english (I have seen, that one fish had almost 10 diff. names!!) or the name means couple diff. fishes. So confusing them together, it's quite common to me. That's why, I hope, you can use scientific name too - then there is no possibility to confusing.

Tetraodon travancoricus = Indian puffer, sea frog, bumblebee puffer, pygmy puffer, abeni puffer, gold puffer, dwarfed indian puffer, Malabar pufferfish (at least)

The bumblebee gobies I have are of the freshwater variety. I do believe there is a brackish variety and a freshwater variety, that look very similar.

My bumblebees did great with my dwarf puffer. I know Pufferpack has also had nothing but good things to say about that combo.

The places that I've got my fish never have the latin names, so I just go by the common ones... -_-

oo, oo, dwarf puffers (tetradon travancoricus)!!!!!!!! you could have four in there provided you have plenty of plants and some caves for cover (read the pinned puffer articles in the oddball section), and either some fw bumblebee gobies (some places sell them as fw, some places only carry the bw type so you'll have to shop around, as dwarves are fw puffers), or some otos would work. they have sooooooo much personality (both fish), and are a little different from your average community fish. make sure you get some snails for your puffer to much on (the nuisance kinds everyone is always trying to get rid, many lfs will give them to you for free and look at you like youre headed for the looney bin  )
dwarf puffers all the way!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think my purpose in life is to convince everyone to get BBG and dwarf puffers. :D I'm saying it so much lately, I'm considering getting another dwarf puffer. :hyper:

Dwarf puffers are 7.99 here and bbg are 10!!! I could get kribs for that price and they wouldn't be so fragile! I have thought about dwarf puffers before but they always hide and are so small!

dixaisy, it is your new purpose in life to convince everyone they MUST have dps and bbgs (oh, and you KNOW youre going to get another  )

dwarves are not that fragile, really they aren't. nor are the bbgs. though you could do otos instead of bbgs. my puffers don't hide, they slowly swim about, but they make up for their slowness by swimming in unusual ways (up, down, backwards) adn their little eyes move all over, so different than other fish, and with four of them, who cares if theyre small, you'd see them. but if they aren't your thing, go with something like a pair of kribs then (can you keep a pair in a 10gal okay?), but you did say you wanted something different..................

You could get endlers live berors they are a clos relative to guppies (and should never be kept with them!) and they can handle a good bit of salt in there water (or atleast that is what i have read) Sry nolinks
