New Tank & Filter

I just bought a 55g tank. The filter is currently hanging on the back of my 46g. How long should I let it run on there before I can consider it to be sufficiently seeded to move it to the 55? I will most likely be going with african cichilds, for whatever that's worth.

I would keep it on there for a week or two. Make sure you have something in the tank like ceramic or any kind of porous media which are wonderful breeding grounds for beneficial bacteria.
