I've been toying with the idea of yellow shrimp for a while and received 12 (ordered 10) 3 weeks ago. I plopped and dropped into a mature 20l tank but removed the substrate and most of the vegetation the day before they arrived along with a 100% W/C. I did not clean the sponge prefilter. Actually there is no other filter
. Pale shrimp on a bare bottom were never going to photograph well, especially not with a phone. The idea is let them breed at least one cycle, keep the perfect ones in here and distribute the rest to my other tanks. I'm not a breeder so don't see the point of culling but after 10 years my red rilis ended up almost transparent when left to their own devices.
I was slightly concerned that 2 weeks after their arrival I went away for a week and they were left to fend for themselves. Got back today and the survival rate is still 12/10. Two of the girls are berried and there are a few more that may be saddled. I've not had shrimp on their own before, or in a bare bottom tank. Two things that surprised me were how much waste they produce and how often they moult. Just today I got 4 moults. As you can see I also had a few hitch hikers on the guppy grass I threw in from the bag they shipped in.
I'm not sure if the one in front is saddled, newly moulted or both. I don't recall any being that clear before I left.
