Hello all, I currently have a Juwel Rekord 70. However I have just bought a used Rio 125.

I am currently just aquascaping the tank as I have to wait for a new carpet to be laid before filling the 125L.

Yes, the tank does look funny where its stood, it won't be there permanently, I need to get rid of my 70L so I can put the 125 in its place.

I will keep Rainbow fish in the tank, and hope to quite heavily plant it.

I bought the tank with a dodgy light unit (not that I knew that). However a friend of mine had his tank smashed by his son so let me have his unit and bulbs FOC.

This is the tank as it stood when I first got it (after removing some awful substrate).

Next step was to put in the sand (I used B&Q Play-Pit sand).

I then began to start putting in a few (washed) items, bogwood and stones. These aren't definete places for them.

The following day I managed to pick some black liner up off a friend, and have used it as a background for the tank, I'm hoping it will bring out the best colour in the rainbows.

Today, I bought some more paddlestones/slate, that seem to look a bit better due to being all the same colour.

I also had a go at putting some dwarf Riccia on a bit of bogwood.

I don't think it looks too bad, but that doesn't guarentee growth making it look good. Hopefully it will grow as it should.

Also began making another Co2 bottle, but this time with an overflow bottle as the last one was a bit of a disaster (no fish were harmed).

Just need to get some more airline to go into the tank now and silicone that in.

I'm now just really egar to get it filled up and start planting it.

Thanks for looking, comments, opinions and advice welcome.

are you growing the plants emersed then?
moving the tank with substrate in will more than likely crack one of the sides or split the silicone because of the un even stress put on the glass with it not being level when moved.

Looking good so far - what plants do you have in mind?

I know you said it wont be there long but whilst it is you want to be carful of the light coming in through your window hitting the tank as it causes algi issues. I don’t know, maybe the black background will help avoid this to some extent?

So this morning I've just given in, I think the carpet will take ages so I just gave up waiting.

I put the tank in its final resting place (being careful how I moved it), it was literally just moving it a couple of metres.

Started to syphon the water straight out of the Rekord 70 and straight into the 125 (conviently).

After about 50L had gone into the 125, I felt it was sufficient enough to put the fish in, I knew it would take forever to get the Kuhli Loaches out too!

One problem I am having is knowing where abouts on the dial to have the heater? Its an old style heater, thus not having the temperature range on it (unlike my Rekord 70's heater that has the range e.g. 24-29degrees).

Overall, was quite a quick change over, just need to buy some more plants now, didn't realise it would loook so empty having put those in.

Quite fancy some twisted vallis, and maybe some more straight vallis along the back, followed by some smaller foreground plants.

Thanks for looking, will keep you updated!

Tim.

Another quick update, went out in search of straight Vallis, but found none (in the three fish shops I went to).

So I ended up buying 2 lots of jungle vallis and a big bunch of java fern.

I coudln't find any nice foreground plants, the ones I saw I thought would probably need high amounts of Co2.

Can somebody reccomend me a good foreground plant?

Thanks,

Tim.

People do plant them, however I'm not too keen on the look.

I need peoples opinions, I'm thinking about adding some more java fern, the same amour that is in there, but again. So doubling the amount. Good or bad idea? I am otherwise unsure what to plant at the back.
