I found out that my tank is 75 gallons, if my measuremets are right the 55 and 75 are the same length in most cases? just wider? That is what I was told, any way I bought a smaller Tiger Oscar toda about 3 inches long and 15 feeders swordtails and other fish. The minute he went in with the feeder fish he went after them and did not stop until every single one was gone. This fish has also really bonded to my bigger oscar that I have posted about. He/she is all over the fish not agressive but like a bond or simease twins. The big one will even get pissed and run it off sometimes but not often. I want to make sure its okay for oscars to gourge that way on feeder fish. Is it? I mean this guy went after them hard, and big time it was so fun to watch him just get them by anymeans. They would hide under big rocks and he would just knock it out of the way and suck him up. And this guy is a little oscar eating fish a inch or more long. He/she is something else to watch. Let me know about feeders and oscars please? Should I keep a supply in there or just do it at times, because today he ate 13 fish and 10 grass shrimp in about 1 hour and it would have been sooner but one fish was hiding for about 25 minutes then he was found out as well, then chomp. Thanks

personally, i don't use feeders. too prone to carry diseases. i do use convict fry for feeders though. i have two breeding pairs of convicts and use the fry for feeders.

Thank you for the advise. I cant get the new one or the others to eat pellets. So I went to the feeders. The stor I use is top of the line and do not carry any diseased fish, well noone is perfect but the store is great. Thanks again I still have my tank getting back to the norm because of the move and the bad water the big Osar was in. Thank you for the advise and I appreciate it. Ronnie

Yeah i found out how many diseases they can carry the hard way. I am now trying to breed guppies....but they just arent landing the deal....maybe some baby face music and a table spoon of cheap wine per gallon will do the trick?

:)

If you must buy feeders from a store, quarantine and medicate them for a few weeks. If they are livebearing, keep a few so you will always have a supply. Oscars don't have to eat fish. A cheap food that no fish could turn down (although some can ;) ) is the frozen shrimp that you get from the grocery store. Press the water out of the can, put it in a container and leave it in the freezer. It's only about 2 dollars for a can, although it may not last long with oscars :p Other frozen foods made for fish are good to, but they lack in quantity and cost more :)
