:hyper: i bought my guppies 2 weeks ago out of the tank marked male's but when i turned on the light today i had about 20 lil ones. what the he_ _ do i do? i never had lil ones before.   :fish:

If you want them to have a great chance at surviving, take them out and put them in a different tank filled with the same water that they came from. If you don't have another tank, you can go to Wal Mart and buy a breeding net. (THIS IS BETTER THEN PUTTING THEM IN A NEW TANK!!!!!) The net costs $5. Put all the little ones that you can catch into the net and keep them in there. They will be safe from their parents eating them. Make sure the fry are the onlyones in the net though!! After you have done this, take 2 teaspoons of fish flakes and put them in a ziplock baggie. Use your fingers to grind up the flakes untill they become a fine powder, (This could take 10-15 minutes.) Every day feed your fry this powder. Its very hard to get a very little amount of powder to your fry useing your fingures. So take a toothpick. Dip the very tip of it in the water. Take it out and slide your fingure down the toothpick to all the excess water is out. The tip should be moist. Put the moist tip into the powder food and pull out. Put the toothpick in the net where the fry are in. The powder hsould come right off inot the net and the fry will eat. Feed them 3-4 times a day for best growth in your fry. Good Luck!

Ron is absolutely right but I'd like to make another suggestion - a 1 gallon tank at WalMart, complete with a hood, light, airstone and pump, costs only $10. A 2 gallon, also with hood light airstone and pump, costs only $20. Just be sure to fill it with water and rocks from the tank they came from. (It will already be cycled) When they get a little bit bigger you might try fry food if you can find it, but I think its easier to use crushed flakes like Ron said, when theyre smaller. Fry food has more nutrients in it to make them grow lots. If you lose some, don't be discouraged... babies are tough for a beginner!

You could if you want have a heavily planted tank becuase then the fry can hide and have a greater chance. But a breeding net is the way to go if you can't get another tank. Good luck ;)

Hey there, congrats on the new babies.
Mine are getting ready to have babies sometime soon too. I have breeding nets for them but have a question for whoever suggested the 1 gallon or 2 gallon tanks. What about a heater? Do they do ok without one? If so, I might consider this for my guppy and sword babies that are on the way.
Appreciate your info.

:D Thanks to everyone who replied they are doing really good. I just need to actually catch the babies they are really fast. I have tried crumbling the food and it is working good. I bought a breeding net when it happened and put momma in it until I know what to do. :fish:

You do need a beater *heater* lol, Congrats guppylady ;)

congrats on the babies - I have water sprite floating in my guppy tanks and get a good number of babies survive (20 -30) survive each drop. Only thing is - have to prune it regularly as it covers the whole surface quite quickly - good luck
