I've had three angelfish for approximately one year now. Two weeks ago, one of the smaller angelfish's fins were looking chewed off and tattered. A day later, he was dead. Tonight, I was noticing my remaining two angelfish acting strangely. THEY WERE LAYING EGGS!?! What? I'm guessing the more dominant male fish killed the weaker fish two weeks ago and is now breeding with the female. I didn't know I had angelfish of different sexes. So, they finished laying eggs about 4 hours ago. I have NO idea what to do! I'm guessing my tank isn't really meant for breeding. I never planned on this happening. The fish keep acting like they're moving the eggs around. Can they do that? I need help FAST! The only other fish in the tank is a smaller pleco. The angelfish attached their eggs in the upper corner of the tank glass, and my pleco never really leaves this one rock. I'm not worried about the pleco eating the eggs. HELP!

The first spawn or 2 rarely end up being fertile, and the parents rasing them even rarer. Once they start to spawn, they will continue to do so every week or two. Angels will move, fan, and clean the eggs & wigglers, and the plec will do it's best to eat them. An early spawn will have around 100 eggs, in a few months, a well conditioned pair will have spawns of 300+ eggs. You will need 1/2 to 1 gallon per fish to raise them to a sellable size.

Best thing to do for now is leave them be. Either they or the plec will eat the eggs overnight. If you want to raise some angels, plan on buying more tanks, and make sure you have a place to sell or trade them.
