seriously need help guys thought i new alot about freshwater aquariums.... obv not. i have a 200 litre established freshwater tank been running about a year and i moved house 6 weeks ago. since then i have had a nightmare with green water problem its realy got me peed off. iv tried feeding less cutting down the light and large water changes weakly but still the green tinge starts to come back after 2 days and after a week the water is to the point where i cant see my fish or the plants and decor! has anyone got any solutions ?? any ideas would be greatly appreciated as this problem has got my head done in !!

Try a complete blackout for a few days. You might also want to add moss balls or other plants which will compete for the light, or consider getting some algae eaters (snails or shrimp) to add?

Had a big green algae bloom last year. Took me weeks to get rid of it.
I did water changes every 2 days untill it just disapeared.
Its really a lot of hassle to be honest and really anoying not to be able to see inside the tank, but that's the only way i could sort it out
By taking my water changes to the extreme.

Could be but unless I've read something and misinterpreted it, then excess phosphates only begin to cause algae when it's in conjunction with high nitrate levels.

Is your tank in any way exposed to sun light. Does.it get more light from the outside than in the previous home?

The water in your new place might have somthing to do with it ( just a thought ) or purchase a internal UV filter to clear up the water.

My thought is this sunlight mixed with your water, maybe this water has more phosphates, or even nitrates is giving you the green water.
And don't forget that this past week we are having much more sun than normal in the uk.I've always solved my green water problems with water changes and by giving it time.
I'll stick to that advice.
There's the uv light as suggested it definitely works but its not cheap. Green water does not kill your fish, nor damages your tank its just bloody sad not to see your tank.
But its an emergency easily fixed with patience and lots of water changes.
