so i was having a chat in my LFS and they told me, real proud, they could get tattooed fish, parrotfish with lipstick, and it was reeeally really cool! to which they got the ultimate glare of doom and informed that such practices should be illegal to buy (that it's already illegal to do it in the UK). make these people feel small. SMALL! and they did. they realised they did wrong by cat. which was nice.

that's the end of my story.

on topic of this, when that defra letter to send to your local council person came up, i sent it to the guy in essex where my dad lives, he's really good, wrote straight back he did and said he brought it up in the house of commons.

and today my dad called and said i'd got a 2 page letter from Defra! Roughly summed up i think it said they are not aware of any instances of tattooing or dying fish in this country, however any stores found selling such fish can be taken to court under the new animal welfare bill. (i think there are some loopholes though...)

If you take a look in the sticky thread on Dyed fish, later tonight I will be typing up a letter my MP received from Defra and forwarded on to me, and adding it to the thread.

The letter stated that the animal welfare bill would not be the correct way to prosecute LFS from importing and stocking tattooed/dyed fish.

You must remeber that a 'bill' is and amendment to a current Act of Parliament that is being passed through the House of Lords and as such is not yet Law, so a store could not be taken to court under the bill.

hmm. i haven't actually seen the letter, it's far away at my dads house.
