bought three of these beauties just before christmas, they were in a tank of mixed killis and the label stated 'neon panchax'. I'm guessing they are Aplocheilus Panchax, am I right or wrong?

Certainly looks like it, there are a lot of Aplo. linneatus var. coming onto the market these days I think that one comes under another name relating to something like dbl red like the apistogrammas
From a personal standpoint I dont like the cultivated varieties that much preferring the wild standard but hey ho each to his own

ahhh, so these have been selectively bred for the colour? Although I'd read about "golden wonder" panchax before buying, these are the first killis I have owned. Presumed the same general care is required.

You are correct on both your assumptions, exactly the same for all Aplochelius lineatus.
