Name That Fish!

just rescued a tank, we were told this was a silver dollar, were really not so sure, Ian thinks it's a young pacu, anyone else got any thoughts, sorry the pics a bit rubbish and yes we do think he's poorly

looks like a SD to me. i'm quite sure it is looks like my old lot lol.

you reckon? we thought the face shape was wrong, here's an SD and the red pacu we suspect it might be.... face shape is definately like a pacu, also the body's not round like a dollar?

i would go with SD i used to keep them and they looked just like them with the red fins etc. slight flecking in the dorsal fin.

but if i'm worong i got soem real cheap pacu's lol. about the body shape could be due too , to samll a tank and otehr factors like bad diet inter-breedin etc. maybe. but i doubt that it is.

fair enough, don't look like the pics to me but I've never kept SD's or Pacu's so really out of my field of expertise here, we weren't planning on keeping him, just panicked he's not what we thought he was!

anyone else got any thoughts?

btw how big is he? looks about 3 or 4 inches? how long had the previous person had it ? if you know...

maybe 5/6 inches from nose to where his tail starts.

no idea how long she's had him for ???

quite big then... glad he's better now anyway.

i would still back the it being a SD.

I'm almost 100% sure thats a silver dollar, looks exactly like my school of 4 They like to be in groups so you should get him some freinds if you have the room that is... they can get kinnda big.

There are severa; species of Silver Dollar and the first fish that came to mind when I saw it was Silver Dollar.

he's poorly but fingers crossed if we can bring him round he's being re-homed in a nice big tank with lots of friends so shouldn't be an issue. He just came with the tank, we never intended to keep him as we knew the size of tank and stocking wasn't right, also they're just not our favourite fish
