when filling up the tank for the first time, would you recommend that I put the dechlor in each bucketful of water and then put it in, or put all the chlorinated water in the tank and then put the dechlor in before running the filter?

edit: please answer asap!

at the end just to save time really and the hassle of measuring it out each time.

:good:

easier on small tanks to put a few drops in the buckets, larger tanks, depending how your fill ttem, is quite often easier to put declorinator in the tank before water goes in.

Well, unless you're puttingin a filter already colonised with bacteria, you might as well just stick it in after the tank is full.

I just add 4 drops to each bucket of water and then add the water to the tank. Obviously the number of drops will differ with size of bucket and type of dechlor you use. Easy for me as mine is just a pump type bottle.
But I don't think it matters much at all.

thanks everyone! my tank is now set up and i am just waiting for the dust to settle (quite literally) and then i will start adding ammonia in a day or two.

not really an answer more another question sorry -_- but if you add the dechlor after all the water rather than before or to each bucket as you go, once you have bacteria growing could this not kill them off :-( or does the water with chlorine need a certain amount of contact time, just a thought :sly:
