It has been said over and over by many fishstore keepers...

"he'll only grow as much as the tank will allow"
"he'll get big, but not too big in that size tank"

etc. etc.

Is This FACT OR FICTION

Some fish can inhibit growth to adjust to the size of their tank but it's at best a limited solution as eventually it does catch up to them. So the best plan is to plan ahead for whatever adult size your fish will be.

Well.. if you think about it..

if you keep an oscar in a 1g tank.. it's not going to outgrow it, because a 1g tank is only maybe 6'' long. I've never seen a 7'' fish in a 6'' long tank.

That's sometimes true, usually with larger fish, but mainly relates to things like diet, water conditions etc, and sometimes tank size in the aforementioned context. Evidently no reason to keep an e cat in a 30g.
