This weekend (Friday & Saturday) I went on an overnight trip to Kansas City, MO (about an hour away from me). On Friday I went to the KC zoo, and Saturday I went to the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, and thought I'd share some pics over several threads. I hope you all enjoy. -Dawn
The first part I'll cover the Nelson-Atkins. This is my favorite museum, I went a couple of times in high school as part of my Spanish class and have been wanting to go back ever since. Here are a few pics of some of my favorite pieces. You'll have to forgive the pic quality as the lighting there isn't the most conducive for taking pics and they don't allow flash (it breaks down the paint over time).
This is a section of a very large (I think it was 12 panels) chinese screen
A very nice german secretary bookcase built between 1740-1750
A closer view of one of the panels
Cool Looking Contemporary rock fountain
Interesting greek frieze, I think it was done somewhere around 450 B.C.
Closer view
Greek Lion from Attica made approximately 325 B.C.
The Apostles Paul, Andrew and James; Spain
The Virgin and Child; France 1475
Large Buddha scuplture in bronze, it sits on a landing
This gives a better idea of how large the sculpture is
Capital in the Shape of a Bull 518 B.C. to 460 B.C.
Armor for Man and Horse 1565 and Horsemans Field Armor 1575, both Italian
Creepy contemporary Museum Guard, I had to get up close to see if he was alive.
Still Life with Cat and Fish by Jean Baptiste Simeon Chardin, I had to add this because it had a fish.
The Eruption of Vesuvius by Sebastian Pether
Martyrdom of Saint Lawrence by Girolamo da Santacroce
At the Rise of the Sun by Yves Tanguy. I'm not normally into modern art, but something about this painting calls to me.
I hope you all enjoy, zoo pics coming soon.
