hi
I have two tanks and they are both in my room. I have a thirty gallon cichlid tank and a ten gallon community/butterfly tank. In my cichilid tank I have,
1 pleco
1 cory
3 mini jack dempseys
1 green terror
1 small breed tilapia
2 clown barbs
1 texas cichlid
1 baby pacu
1 honey gourami
1 pike cichlid
1 bala shark
1 geo brazil

In my little tank, I have,
all very small-
1 pleco
1 algea eater
1 cory
2 scissor tails
2 neons
3 red fin tetras
2 rare black tetras
1 injured rosy barb
2 zebras
1 african butterfly fish-community bread

I obey the rule of 1 inch of fish for every gallon in the tank. My tanks have the perfect consistancy of fish in them and I do not like to undercrowd my tanks. I do a little tank water change/filter clean once a week and in my big tank I do a water change/filter clean once every two weeks. I feel that if you do not have the right amount of fish in a tank, That it deprives the fish of schools and partners in both senses. A fish will not bring out its full activity without other species to make territories. I am against undercrowding tanks. I do what is right for the fish and i never miix bad species. I also do research before I go to buy a new fish.

If you say you do research on fish before you buy them, then why have you got all those fish in your tank? the Pacu will get larger than the 30g, the green terror is to big for the 30g, as a matter of fact, all those cichlids are way to large for that tank, 1 cichlid per 55g there dude. Ican see some MAJOR fighting and killing going on in your tank. the green terror is going to claim that tank for sure.

i hope that you are planning on getting alot more tanks when some of these fish grow up!

first of all the 1" of fish rules is based on adult max size of the fish, not the size they are now. fine if these are grow out tanks, but not as permament homes. i am assuming the plec is a common plec? if so, he can get up to 12" or better. pacu's are another story. they can get up to lengths of 3' when fully grown and are a wide bodied fish. mine out grew my 180 and is now living in a zoo happy and content in a very large tank. also they are cousin to the pacu. while they are classed as an herbivore, they will eat small fish. mine loved to eat convict fry. the barbs will just be food when the jd, green terror, pike get some size on them.

the 30 has alot of cichlids in them. cichlids are very messy. doing water changes once every week is not sufficient for them. especially on a small tank as a 30. my 30 tall with just haps get a water change twice a week alone. the 180 i do once a week as it has the larger guys like your jd and green terror in it.

cichlids are more aggressive if there are not the right male/female ratio. mbuna need a 3 female to each male ration at the minimum. the sa/ca's when paired will be more aggressive when they are paired and mating. each not having his own territory will cause aggression. i would say that your 30 is going to turn into a massacre.

And all your other fish will become food, have you see how nice these cichlids are when they grow up? you would have to do 20% water changes everyday to see them like that or else they might grow deformed from being stunted

Hmmmmmm, that has to be just about the worst stocklist for a 30g tank ive ever seen, personally i dont think anyone would be stupid enough to mix all those species into such a small tank and that this is just a wind up, if its not then you are going to have some serious problems in the near future!!!!!

Not to much more to say, agreed. :)

 Your all right I missed that, I don't think you can even buy the fish at sizes to make the tanks fit the 1 inch rule

you all suck. you have never even seen my tank and how it acts wtf do you know. :grr: :grr:

We all know alot about cichlids dont take it the wrong way but i dont think you know to much, cichlids will claim there own part of the tank and that will be theres, they will soon start to kill each other off and anyother fish for that, my money is on the texas, its hard to understand but you will see what i mean in a month or two, your fish will start to kill each other off.

hey watch the language. think everyone here was trying to help in a nice way. know i was. if you don't like the answer don't ask the question or post about a tank that is a total disaster.

keep up the insults and i will close this post down.

Well I think people like CFC and semper aswell as others know quite alot thankyou. Both having kept fish over the previous years and having a vast range of fishy intelligence. I know for a fact that both of them keep/kept some of your fish and are simply advising you for the best, if you read some previous posts you will see what I mean. Just picking out some examples, Balas are gregarious as any good info source will tell you and should be kept in groups they will also reach 12-14", the Pacu can reach in excess of 3' depending on the species aswell. Out of interest what species of Pike Cichlid do you own? :)

im sorry y'all. im only 12 and i took that a little personially. I know what y'all mean but i forgot to point out thatall these cichlids were in the same tank as babies. I bought the tank with the fish when the fish were only 2 months old. they are all used to eachother and nobody is the weak fish. There is never fighting going on and they all eat alot so there is no reason why there should be. these fish are all small too. sorry againy'all. :/ :( :byebye:
