My tank has dusty looking white strings all over. I have 5 glass cats in there. I have a photo of the mess. Look along the plants edges. What do I do? Here is a photo. http://img222.imageshack.us/i/fishd.jpg/

How long has the tank been set up.

How many gallons is the tank.
Water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.

The tank has been set up for about 5 weeks now. I dont know the other stuff. I am ging to get a kit today. I have been told it is white hair algae. How do you get rid of it? :)

its quite common in a newly set up tank.
To remove it just twist it around a tooth brush.

You can also carefully run your syphon along the edges. Only one of my tanks has that and it's the one without a filter. The ones that do have filters that are still cycling don't have any white stuff.

How many gallons is your tank?

My tank is a 30 gal tank. It started about a week and a half after I put water in it as little strings. Hairlike. I thought it WAS hair that made its way into the tank. A strand here and a strand there. Not everywhere like it is now. I would like to know how to get rid of it. It makes my plants (fake) look dusty. Not appealing. It is not bothering the fish. To touch it, it feels like matted white hair. The filter catches it when it is broke off the decorations, but I have to go in and detach it before it will do that. It doesn't just float freely. It is attached to everything in the tank except the tank itself and the fish. I saw at another site that it will run its course? is that true? if not, how do I stop it from growing and how long does it usually last? Thanks for all your help. I appreciate it.

How often are you changing the water? Mine doesn't have very much at all. More like I mean it *didn't*. Because I don't have a filter in one of my 5-gallon betta tank, I'm changing the 1/2 the water every three days. Yesterday I did the change and now the only hair I see in there is a couple of mine! lol (I have long hair and it's inevitable that one or two strands end up in there!)

Is your filter made for a 30 gal. (or higher) tank?

I do a water change about once a week. I have a filter pump for a 40gal tank. I understand completely about the hair :)
