Depends. But tannis can be good for your fish. It's only a slight yellow. You can keep on soaking or even boiling you wood to take the tannis away. But eventually the filter should remove the tannis.

you can also use coconut shells or styrofoam with rocks or sand glued to it.

That"s weird because tanks can take tons of rocks. I have like 100+ lbs of rocks in my 75 gallon tank.

You can put some "eggcrate" (plastic light diffuser) on the botom of your tank before you add your rocks and substrate. That's what I did and it realy helps mounting solid rock formations.

Cover the bottom of the tank with the eggcrate.
Add a bit of substrate to fill the holes.
Place all your rocks.
Add the rest of your substrate.

I have these lock rock things that I use in my tank, they are plastic rocks but they look real and they snap into each other to make cool rock formations. I will see if I can get a link of for you so that you can see what I am talking about.

That really sucks about the tank. I suppose it's possible there was a fault in the glass to begin with. Or maybe you had too much weight concentrated in one place rather than spread out across the bottom?
