My sparkling gouramis are stalking my snails...

I've got a new (cloned) tank at work with a shoal of juvie sparkling gouramis in it. I thought they'd be pretty inoffensive, so I'm also using the tank as a snail grow out tank. I have tiger nerites, zebra nerites, red nerites, spixis and apple snails (all young). But the sparklers are like a gang of rowdy teens! They stalk the snails fanatically, then nip their stalks off!!

Will the snails learn to keep their heads down? Will the sparklers get bored? The nerites all have pretty teeny stalks (tentacles/antennae??) but I'm worried about the apple snails, theirs are pretty long.

Unfortunately, I would have thought all my other fish would have been as bad (and are certainly larger than the sparklers).

Any advice?

Sparkling gouramies seem to be that kind of little devils you told. Well, they ate my red cherries and shrimps are much faster than snails... I don't think your snails have any chance. My advice is to move sparklings to other tank if you can.

How strange i have a shoal of sparkling gouramis with 1 apple snail and about 5 shrimp and they are all fine. the snail is never bothered!! ?

Does the snail ever extend his antennae and eye stalks though?

Hi Sarah,

I keep my sparkling gourami in my 180 litre tank with a ghost shrimp, 6 amano shrimp and 3 fan shrimp, there are also 5 porcupine snails in the tank and a mts the only time i have seen them go for anything is when i first put the snails in and they dropped to the bottom, when the snails are stuck to the glass i have not seen any problems, they all seem to have their antenna.

They are certainly Devils in Disguise.

Mine were Perfect little darlings, then all of a sudden. they Turned on my Angels and would gang up and drag them around the tank by their feelers/fins/dorsal.
Apple snails have no chance against Sparklers.

that's weird..i have 4 sparklings myself..they...are inoffensive..maybe it's cause my fish are way bigger then them..but..thye wouldnt even dare to go near my angels which are like the size of my palm

i guess i wont be keeping them in the next month when i move..i'tll just be a guppy and cory tank..i dont think the guppies would stand a chance if they are that evil
