I know the obvious answer is lack of light but my tank sits in front of a picture window...plenty of ambient light and I have the normal lighted hood...not a plant bulb in it though. I have had sword plants and various grassy kinds of things all bought from my Local fishie store and they all do the same thing...essentially they look grate for awhile then after a month or so start looking brown or unhealthy until we eventually remove them and replace them. I have a 10 gallon tank now and will be moving into a 72 galln bow very soon. I have a fake plant setup for that tank all ready to go but real plants even as little as a few would be nice to mix in. My water levels are good and my fish seem happy. what else could kill plants?

Do you use any fertiliser? What's your substrate? How many watts is the fluorescent light? :)

Do you know what those "grassy things" are exactly? Cos in my experience grasllike lfs plants are often not true aquatic plants. :(

I'm using regular aquarium gravel. the plants come in little "pots" I was told that you could just bury the pots in the gravel. The grassy things probably werent aquatic. I also have stalk like plants which have spider plant like growth. Even having baby plants just like a spider plant would.

if you have the money invest in a CO2 maker .. i got 1 and its working wonders for me ... my amazon sword is starting to grow out of the water and its happening fast
