Up until recently I had 8 neon tetras but slowly my numbers are decreasing. There is no sign of them in the tank so would it be possible for my other slightly larger fish to be having a snack?

Current stock

1 angelfish but its only small
2 pearl gourami
6 black widow tetra
2 guppies
1 gbr
1 plec
3 Julii Cory
2 blind cave tetra
And only 4 neons now.

I know angelfish will eat them but surely it can't be big enough yet to eat them I was thinking maybe its the gouramis or the plec as they are the only ones that seem big enough to eat them but everyone thinks they are good community fish

My money is on the angels.
However, the neons could be dying of natural causes and then being eaten by other fish.
As for the gouramis, it's possible to get nasty ones in any species.

Given what you have in the tank, it would be logical to think that the angelfish would be the suspect. I would be more likely to believe that since you have a small angelfish the neons are dying of natural causes and the pleco is doing his job and cleaning your tank very well. It doesn't take long for a pleco to clean up a dead fish.

Well I didn't think they could eat a neon that quickly I've only been gone a couple of days. I'll soon find out if it is the plec when I rehome him.

Cheers peeps

think you've missed the direction AndrewK's post was highlighting, the pleco most probably isn't killing your neons, but if they do actually pass away and are on the floor of the tank the pleco will eat them up.

No I got where he was coming from but I still need to rehome the pleco. Just to let you know that I did a test on Friday and all the results were spot on so I'm not worried on water quality I think I could be just due to old age.

There is a disease called neon tetra disease, i'm not really sure what causes it or what the symptoms are but it may be worth looking in to.

Just feed them and all the sudden the one that was missing in action has popped up out of no where wouldn't mind finding out where it's been hiding as I've had most of the logs out to see if could find the little terror.

But I will look a that neon tetra disease thanks
