Hi all, haven't been on the forums for a while. Hope all is well with everyone and their fish...I've run into a little problem and would appreciate some suggestions!
I noticed something very wrong with my bronze cory today. Its pair of eyes looks like it has been pecked, even though it hasn't been sick. I just had a closer look and where the eyes normally are, it is now just 2 black dots, so I'm not even sure if its eye-balls have been biten out..after observing it for a while, it does look like the poor fella is blind. It also has white scratches all over its face. It does NOT look like dropsy, but I can't figure out what it is. I have yet to lost any cory in the 9 months that I've kept them. If something was to go wrong, I would have expected it to effect the panda cories, especially as they are panda juveniles.
Sorry I can't post pics now, the photos I've taken doesn't really show the wounds of the bronze cory really well as he has been hiding and hasn't moved all day.
He was in the large 300L tank and I have now moved him to the 110L.
Tank size is 300L, has been set up and running for 8 months now. Other fish include rummynose/cardinal tetras, clown loaches, sterbai/panda/bronze cories and bristlenoses.
Water stats are:
0 Ammonia
0 Nitrite
15 Nitrate
pH 6.6
Have not added any medication or any new fish in the tank for the last 3 months.
Here is the problem - at first I thought it was a problem with my water or it was some sort of disease, but could it be due to some aggressive bristlenoses?
I have 4 BNs in the 300L tank, 2 adults (M/F that are 4") and 2 juveniles. Before last week, I had not lost a fish for a few months, but in the last week, I have lost 3 danios, 2 platties and now this happens to my cory.
Everytime I come in, I see the adult female bristlenose fully chewing onto the danio/platty with its huge mouth.
Now I am still unsure whether its the BN killing the fish, or some kind of disease in the tank. Its definitely not ich, as my clowns will alert me to that by now.
Following on from this post, I am now unsure whether I should return the 2 adult BNs (if thats causing the problem) or take a serious look at my tank and find out what factors are causing the sudden loss of fishes.
Are some adult BNs known to be aggressive and attack other fish?
I've had the adult BNs for 3 months now, got them when they were 3", haven't had any problems up until now. They are well fed, all fish are well fed, so hunger wouldn't be a reason for the deaths.
Whats causing the most concern for me is the fish I have lost in the past week are known to be the hardiest fish out there - zebra danios, platties and now, possibly a bronze cory.
I'm not sure what it is thats killing them (disease or the BNs killing them or something else), whatever it is, I find it strange that other less hardy fish like rummynoses and pandas, aren't dying.
Thanks for reading through all of this, any suggestions/recommendations will be appreciated.
