Hey Im new with the tropical fish scene, although my father used to love it as a hobby, I have a small 50cm wide tank and bought 6 fish as a started - 2 mollys, 2 tetras, 2 plattys.

I have one black molly and one white molly (black is female white is male)

The day after I got them, I woke up to quite a few frys from the black molly, I went out straight away and got a breeding tank and they are in there, although a few are still swimming around the tank - I noticed my black molly had some fluff hanging from its mouth, so I caught it and got it out and it was quite deep in its throat as I was pulled it out slowly it just kept coming and coming, afterwards my molly seemed fine. But now I have noticed a kind of white cotton wool circle just below its head on her top, and I am noticing more and more little white patchs, does anybody know what this means?

Sounds like it may be columnaris.

This is a bacterial infection that is quite common in livebearers. There are a number of treatments available over the counter and aquarium salt can also help prevent it. The infection is very contagious and can contaminate equipment and other fish rapidly.

Thanks for the information, as I am only starting up the tank the pet shop owner told me I am more likely to have these problems - so I bought fish that might be able to survive, I get payed on friday which is not alot as im only 16 I think my molly will have to go down the toilet and then i will buy treatment on friday for this.

Is the fish mouth rotting away.

Ask parents for med money till you get payed. If the mouth not rotting you might be able to save her with meds.

How may gallons is the tank.
How many fish and which type.
Water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.

Whoa! For god's sake DO NOT put your molly down the toilet, you should never flush any fish - alive or dead.

Somebody will lend you the £4/£5 you need to buy some meds, surely?

please do NOT flush that poor sick fish down the toilet! cruel cruel cruel, ask someone to lend you a couple of quid to help it! there are many threads on acceptable forms of euthanasia on this forum, if this ends up being what needs to be done but it is definately worth trying an over the counter med + aquarium salt you wont need any more than around 10 pounds maximum. i know its not easy when you dont have money and not easy asking but worth it to try & save your pet. surely someone can lend it to you???
