I have a 30g tank with an external Eheim Ecco 2234 and an internal Fluval +2 with spray bar.
For the past week the tank has lots of tiny particles in the water, not sure why or what.
All of the perameters are ok. I do a regular water change of 25% every week and vacuum at the same time.
I have a sand substrate with live plants some of which are potted.
All of the fish are very healthy and do not seem affected by the particles.
Feed the fish once a day of which most, if not all doesn`t touch the bottom.
Started treating the water with a (focculator) Accua Clear on Friday, and Saturday there was no difference, treated again Saturday, and Sunday still no difference which leads me to believe it is not debris as it should have started clearing after a couple of hours. Checked the filters on Sunday morning and all is Ok, however went to the Lfs and bought some super fine Eheim filter wool to see if that could capture it, fitted that on Sunday morning and left that to see if it would clear. Woke up this morning and it appears to be slightly worse.
Could it be something worse than just debris, bacteria or algae maybe. ????
I did have to scrape the front tank from algae a couple of days ago if this is of any help.

Just to try and picture what I am talking about, If you stand about two/three feet away the water looks crystal clear, it is only when I get right up to the glass it is noticeable, very, and I mean very tiny specs in the water (everywhere) and they do appear to be going into both inlets to the filters.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated on how to remove this stuff.

Anybody.

This might be in the wrong section.
Maybe a Mod might be able to move it to the Begginers or Emergency section.

Thanks.

What do you feed the fish?

Any plants?

DO you have allot of agitation from the filters that causes allot of current, which makes it difficult for the debris to get sucked up by the filters?

Generally I feed the fish with normal flake and a couple of floating Chiclid sticks for the Acara and firemouth, and when all is quiet at night I drop a couple of algae wafers oand sinking catfish pellets for the plecs.
As with plants, they are all new, 2 bunches of Amazon sword, 2 potted Angustifolia, 1 potted Stricta and 2 bunches of Java Fern which I am trying to attach to 2 pieces of bogwood.
Not sure about the aggitation from the filters, the Eheim is straight from the inlet pipe (no attachment) in one corner just below the surface (about an inch) and the Fluval +2 has a spray bar in the centre spraying from front back to front just below the surface to break the water.

Removed the spraybar from the Fluval last night hoping that it would make some difference with the waterflow and this morning there is no improvement.

Anyone else have any suggestions.

There are plenty of options available, but you might want to try increasing your cleaning regime first.

A UV light might also be another option.

I get a similar thing in my tank usually when the filter needs a clean out.

I think it is just your general fish waste that usually settles on the bottom. Before i put the ehiem in you could see it settled on the bottom and i had to vac it all the time, Now the current keeps it suspended and the bottom is pretty much clean all the time and when i do vac it the water is pretty clear.

Hope that makes sence.

The only side effect i can see is i have to change the filter Floss every few weeks as it gets really really dirty.
