ive been feeding my mudskipper (not sure of the species just labeled "common mudskipper" at lfs so im assuming its periophtalmus barbarus b/c they are most common) a diet of frozen silversides, freeze dried bloodworm, freeze dried tubifex, and frozen mysis shrimp. And the occasioanl livefoods such as ghost shrimp, crickets, guppies (very rarely), and brine shrimp (though as he gets bigger hes more reluctant to take them. My question is in the wild are mudskippers diet composed of more land creatures (like crickets) or aquatic creatures (like bloodworm)? And should i try to replicate this in my 40 gal mangrove? (ie feeding more land creatures like insects, crickets, earthworms, or more aquatic foods)

I think they like crickets more. The main reason they go on land is probably to catch food that they cant get in the water. They spend most of their time on land, so thats probably where they eat.

They really need a good supply of live foods PP - crickets and eartworms are a good choice, but I think crickets are the preferred option.

well they dont need livefoods. they can get just as much nutrients and a varied diet from frozen/freeze dried foods as they would in live. Though with all fish, live is much more preferred

Yes they can get the same nutrients etc from the frozen or freezdried foods, but I was under the impression that mudskippers do better on live foods.

It's a quality of life thing.

Sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong though...

I cant say from experience as Ive never fed any of my fish an all live diet, but from the many people I heard about they said frozen/freeze dried foods can give the same quality of life as a livefood diet would. But this can be debated though, some say livefoods some say frozen, so you can be the judge.
