More Than 1 Filter?

Hey guys.
I have a 55G tank, and i am currently running a fluval 304 filter.

Would it be a good idea to run another filter? I was thinking about a canister filter...

The problem is that I have sand substrate and I am getting alot of brown dirt just sitting on the top of the sand, it makes the tank look dirty.

Just siphon up the sand. You need to do that anyways.
