Ok well I just got done with my DIY backround and figured I would put some pics up of it to show you guys how it looks and the process it took dont be afraid to say you dont like it I love constructive critizism.

ok heres a pic of the beggining you can see where I drew on the acrylic where the filter would be so I didnt use big rock in that area. This is just outling the big rocks and seeing how I like them set up.

after the big rock was siliconed on to the acrylic I was washed and dryed the pebble rock to get readdy for use.

As you can see in this image its starting to take shape.

And this is one section complete and ready to be siliconed to the tank glass.

To do this I used 2 tubes of GE Silicone 2 100% silicone no additives river rock about size of your palm and smaller and also river pebble rock. Feel free to ask questions if this may be something you want to do or if you have suggestions on ways to improve it feel free to say them as well for others who may pursue this type of backround.

No such thing as a dumb question but yes I got this rock from the river by my house dont worry I really scrub the rocks before using them and I boiled the pebble sized rock.

thats looks good, i want to see it later when it has greenery and fish :)

Looks neat so far...what size tank are you dealing with?

its a 85 gal tank. Im going this weekend to get the rock for it to make plenty of caves for african cichlids Im still debating on what kind of rock to use I dont know if I should use a land scape rock or if I should stick to river rock. Im thinking land scape rock to give my tank more than one look. and I think i may be adding the sand to the tank today as well just trying to figure out if I can put the air stones under the sand or if thats a bad idea.

Although the question was already answered, you can also find and tell a river rock from most others because they often tend to be smooth and worn flat on the sides. River rocks are great for bottom dwellers as the rocks from a river are naturally smoothed over by the current from a moving river and don't have sharp or jagged edges.

ah thats good then :hyper: gotta admit it looks great, and cant wait for more pics, since you you got the river stones from the river, get yer butt to chelsea flower show and pinch some landscape rock from the displays, it'll be good quality :hyper: :hyper:
