i just bought a moonlight it is 18w is this too bright to leave on at night?

even though it is sold as a 'moonlight'

Depends on the depth of your tank. Put up a picture of it on and wait for comments. Its just your own opion really !

you should be able to tell if the fish are resting or not.

if they all look really stil then its fine but it probably wouldnt hurt to turn them off when u go to sleep or get a timer.

if your asleep is doesnt matter and the timer could always turn the light back on for about 6am so its on when you wake.

This is with the moonlight on, is it too bright?

Looks like a blacklight. Get some strobes and some crappy trance and your fish can have a rave!

haha nice!!

is there anything i can buy to lower the brightness of it?? can just buy a new bulb as the power unit is rated too high and it will blow.

OR can i paint the bulb???

i think if i bought that as a moonlight id take it back cos like u say its still jus as bright as normal.

where did you buy it?

Yeah think im gonna, bought from lfs, they are diamonds though so sure they will be fine if i take it back

I have just bought a moonlight from ebay hasnt come yet but if its any good I will let you know

LOL, I have some extra LED nightlights I was thinking of doing a DIY moonlight. My cheap light fixtures from my All-Glass brand aquarium has some extra room in it. I can just re-wire it to fit in the nightlight as always on, or to a seperate plug so it is not on the timer.

Yeah, I would say 18 watts is way way too much for a moontlight. Especially if it is a florescent light.
