Hi everyone,

I have a quick question.. I have 2 molly fish and one is pregnant so she is in the birthing tank and the other female is in the regular tank with the male. They are all silver mollies and now that the female is back in the tank with the male she is freaking out and turning black??????????????

Help! Should I take her out?? What should I do?? She isnt pregnant nor has she ever been in the 3 months that I have had her.. She is bigger then the male yet he wont stop bothering her!!

Thanks

Sadly it what males do.
Can you issolate her aswell.

Size of tank in gallons or litres.
How many fish and which type.
Water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.

Petsmart checked the water and told me everything is perfect in there.. I have tetras, danio's and Gourmi's.. There are about 15 or so..My other female started going black/ greyish when she was about to have the babies..

The only thing I have to isolate her is a breeder box.. Because the other molly is having her babies shortly and I dont want them eaten!

Oh and my tank is a 30 gallon..

I would issolate her for a while as the male causing her to much stress. Or issolate the male.
Need more females to males, then there the problem of all the babies.

I have 2 females to 1 male which is what I was told is the right ratio? Perhaps I was told wrong.. However I think I am going to have to get her back out of there because she seems to be getting darker and more upset as the time goes on!!

Ugh.. I hope she doesnt die because of that pervert fish..lol

I think it three females to one male.
You will get more help over in the livebearer section of the forum.
Stress can damage there health as it weakens there immune system.

Okay right now I have her in the breeder box as I dont really know where else to put her! sigh..

Thanks.. I was in a panic because I am quite attached to the mollies and dont want them to die. My husband thinks I am nuts LOL..

I will check the livebearer section!

Its the male who should be in the breeder box lol.
I know but it always happens with livebearers. Males only have one thing on there minds.

You might want to think of buying a fry tank as they come in handy for many things. Like hosptial tanks, issolation tanks, and for young fry.

I have a 10 gallon for the mumma's and babies.. And the 30 gallon for the rest.. I also have 2 breeder boxes.. I think my hubby would kill me if I got anything else.. LOL

I would put the male in the breeder box the little pervert only thinking with his fins.. grr.. But I dont want to stress the female out more by moving her again..

Can't you add her to the mummy and baby tank.

Ok thought the other pregnant fish was in the other tank in a breeding box.
Good Luck.

No shes not in the breeder box just in the 10 gallon herself.. I will put her back in the 30 gallon once she is done having her babies.. then the 10 gallon will be for the babies.. Perhaps I should put the prego one in the breeder box and the other molly in the 10 gallon to swim freely..

Oh sheesh this is more stressful then my 3 kids put together.. LOL.. no wonder my hubby thinks I am nuts!!!

ROFL

I know had livebearers and there more trouble than there worth at times.
I know its not funny but it just made me laugh.
You could put her in the ten gallons and add the fry to the breeder box when she has them.

Okay you are right she is off to the 10 gallon tank and when the other molly has her babies I just hope they hide long enough for me to find them so they dont get eaten!

They are more trouble then they are worth sometimes.. LOL.. and they are making me a bit crazier then I used to be.. LOL
