Wondering if Red Cherry Shrimp, Ghost Shrimp and Amano Shrimp can co-exist in a fishtank.

Also, are there any Shrimp Forums out there that specialize in specific species and their behaviors. Thanks.

yes they will be fine. Your amonos will not reproduce due to their zoes requireing a salty water to develope properly. Larger adult ghost shrimp may eat baby cherry shrimps but I have yet to witness this behavior, they will eat any shrimp that is on his way to the grave, though.

petshrimp.com and shrimpnow.com :)

All of those four shrimp can easily co-exist in the same tank, provided the tank is suitable in the first place  .

Sweet, I'm sorry for high jacking the post but I don't think it is necessary to make a new topic. Would those four or at least Bamboo Shrimp, Cherry Red Shrimps, and Amano Shrimp live together in a 5.5 gallon tank? What are requirements for a Bamboo Shrimp?

IMO 5.5 gals is too small for bamboo shrimp, they can get to around 5 inches and seem to like to be kept with their own kind too  . They also need a tank that is at least 6 moths mature -_- . Targeted feeding can be tricky and can go wrong fast, so i would only get them for a bigger tank :good: .
The other shrimp would be great though, wish i could get ghost shrimp here :(.

Okay, thanks for the info T-F, I was just wondering because thst is the only shrimp I saw at my local PETCO. I know that isn't the best place to buy fish but that is where I buy crickets for my chameleon so I was looking around last time. I guess Ill go to an LFS or another LPS. That is once I get enough money to buy all the thing for my tank :) It is too bad I got ahead of myself and bought the 5.5 gallon thinking of getting a Betta. But I then changed my mind like a week after I bought it and decided I wanted shrimp instead. If I had known then I would've bought a 10 gallon instead :-\

Seeing "bamboo shrimps" at the evil chain stores like PETCO make me cry especially since it is in many PETCO (since it is an evil chain) which means a shrimp not studied well in the wild that cannot sucessfully be bred in captivity yet and are being flooded in the market...wow seems verry irresponsible to buy one for the giant warehouse petstore because who knows how much damage PETCO is doing to the wild population of these creatures by marketing them in all of their giant stores. The day i see Atya Gabonensis in that store I swear I will weep blood.

There are people who breed filter-feeding shrimps, though I'm not sure if PETCO actually buys from them or just wild-collects. They seem to sell a number of different shrimp at their stores. Some of the LFS around here sell them at twice the price, but don't keep it in any better condition.

Yeah well I sure would atually like to know who, or see soem documentation on someone who sucesssfully breeds these shrimps, it would have to be on an industrial scale to support a giant like PETCO/SMART. and no, damming up a section of river in a forrest does not count as "captive breeding". They do not breed like cherries.

Freshwater shrimps breed in only three manners, and all three have been successfully done in captivity.
Some lay eggs that hatch directly into little shrimp, like cherry reds.
Some hatch into larvae that can develop in freshwater, like ghost shrimp.
And the last hatch into larvae that develops in brackish/saltwater. Amanos and filter-feeders fall under this category.

Filter-feeding shrimps aren't bred as often, I suppose because they're not popular or in demand as other shrimp.

Basically all shrimp apart from long arm or any that are predatory will get along , bamboo, zebra, giant african fan shrimp, ninja, amano, japonica, cherry they are scavengers that will mainly keep to them selves, bamboo shrimp are fan feeders and are very easy to keep providing you have flow in your tank may it be from an internal or external filter, otherwise they will feed off the bottom of the tank , this is OK, but they shud be fanning the water and collecting enought through that as feeding off the bottom is a last resort.

hope that helps

Thank you for the info iloveroyalplecs :) But, I have decided that my tank is too small to house a Bamboo Shrimp. It is already pretty small to house shrimp in general as I read on a Shrimp only forum that the minimum tank requirement for a Shrimp Tank is 10 gallons and I have a 5.5 gallon which is a little over half of the minimum requirement. So I am just getting CRS and Amano shrimp, Ill have to take a look around some other LFS and see if I can find I forgot to check today when I bought my fish and turtle food today at PetSupermarket, but I doubt they have any there anyways.

I am rearing amano & red cherry shrimps. I have read about amano will kill red cherry while cherry is molting. Not so sure about how true it is. I am keeping my shrimps in the same tank, only experienced one cherry died, not sure the caused of it. Does anyone heard about amano will kill cherry while they are molting?
