Hey all,
The Missouri Aquarium Society is having a swap meet tomorrow from noon to 3. It is open to all and cost 1 us dollar to get in. You can sell your fish and other supplies by purchasing a table at the event. These meets are a great way to get hard to find fish/healthy tank raised fish for a good price. It's also a great way to meet people in your area.

I hope to see some of my fellow "midwesterners" there tomorrow.

Edit-Forgot to mention it is at the Startford Inn in Fenton, MO. You can get directions from the link provided.

Ahh it's a bit of a longer drive than I usually take for swaps & auctions. Besides, I'll be busy at our club's auction tomorrow.

Events like this are an excellent way to get the little helpful hints from successful area breeders that often mean the difference between success or failure when working with a certain species. These really are fun events, and what you learn from the folks that frequent these events is just amazing.

Hi tolak,
I completely forgot you lived semi "close-by" Too bad you wont be there, I have learned a lot from you and it would be nice to meet you. I will have to make the trip out to some of the chicago meets. Chicago, IMO, is way better than St. Louis in terms of aquarium shops, public aquariums, and overall seems to have way more hobbysists. I actually plan on moving to Chicago after college.

Hope others can come :)

Wow, this surely sounds like my idea of heaven, but unfortunately my family and I already have too much on our plates already as it is for tomorrow. Hopefully next time.

Poopsydrew...how was the swap meet? I got thisclose to being able to attend. At 2:45pm, my husband said we could take a run down there, so I looked at the website to double check where it was. Since it closed at 3:00pm, we wouldn't have even gotten there before it closed.

Next time, I'll definitely be there!

Hi all,
Just arrived back home. It was fun.
To be quite honest, the turnout wasnt great and I was told there were about 1/4 of the amount of people there usually are. Either way I got a chance to see some great fish and there were some GREAT deals on dry goods/hardware.

I left with no money and a gorgeous group of dwarf rasboras (Boraras maculatus), a giant bag of watersprite, and a ton of open cell sponges that I use to make sponge filters (I got 3 huge blocks of sponge/foam for 1 dollar!)

I met some very educated hobbysists and breeders and that was very interesting. Oh and of course someone bought all three bags of galaxy rasboras right before I had the chance to buy some.

All in all it was a great trip, I hope you guys can make the next one.

Edit-Wrong scientific name, lol.

Meh, It just wasn't as good as I suspected.

Very few fish for the contest they had, and I couldn't place bids at the auction (I went by myself and you had to be 18 to auction!)

If I went yesterday, then I could have caught a guest speaker or something, but not today :(
