Hi Everyone
I succesfully treated my tank for signs of white spot back in March by using Interpet Anti White Spot number 6. (I'm a newbie having started the hobby in Feb 09 after months of research)
I'm in the middle of another white spot treatment. My water stats are all clear but a few of my smaller fish have white spots on fins and some others with no white spots are flicking/rubbing against plants and substrate.
My tank maintenance is a weekly 25% water change (sometimes its every 10 days but my Ammonia and Nitrite are always zero and Ph stable at 7.2)
I assume it may have been caused by recent introduction of Zebra Loaches who are all spot free but one of them regulary rubs against the substrate,so whether they have brought the disease in with them or not I don't know (As you know I don't have the facility of being able to have a Q tank...risky I know but upto now I've always been ok.
The Number 6 treatment is a two doze, one on day 1 one on day 4 and then 7 days after second doze you do 30% water change and can re-doze again if not clear.
Well my first doze was on 6.12.09 and my second on 9.12.09 following which all had just about cleared so I was waiting until 16.12.09 before doing a large water change ( I'd done 25% water change before first doze on 6.12.09 and increased temp and increased both air stones and left on 24/7 since)
HOWEVER on 12/13th Dec I've noticed return of white spot to same degree as before my first doze.
All fish are still swimming, eating ok,some flicking but I cannot re doze until 16.12.09
Is Interpet no 6 the best medication and is it usual to have to do two lots of meds to get rid?
I was looking at some Protozin and Sterazin(?) which I think treat both White spot and other causes of flicking (Velvet etc)but on readinghe labels they are no good for snails and shrimps of which I have plenty.
Interpet seems to be ok with snails and shrimps?
Would you continue with Interpet treatment from 16.12.09 or switch to Protozin on 16.12.09 but only half doze due to Snails and Shrimps or is the full doze of interpet going to prove better than a half doze of Protozin?
I know Interpet do a Velvet med but you cannot use it at same time as white spot which is why the protozin was looking a good each way bet?
