Ok, so my betta had a fungal infection (it's a community tank), so I treated the tank with Wardley's Ick Away (that's what they had at Walmart, and it says it treats fungus).

On the bottle it says that it's REALLY bad for people, don't get it on your skin, clothing, etc. It also says to do a 50% water change after 24 hrs.

I'm not sure if the fungus is all gone, should I wait to change the water?

Also, I have two young children at home, and don't really want to poison myself either, so what's the best way to change the water when I do? Will the treated water contaminate the water siphon and bucket past redemption? I usually flush the water I take out of the tank, and then rinse the bucket and siphon in the hottest water I can get out of the faucet in my bathtub - can I do this?

I had removed the filter cartridge from the filter since it has carbon in it (it can't be removed, I tried) - but it has been sitting on top of the filter (which is in the hood of the tank) so it is still damp from condensation and slight splashing. I believe the cartridge in question has been in the tank for just about 2 weeks, maybe a little less - is the carbon still good? If I put the cartidge back in, will the carbon remove the medication to the extent that it's safe enough to clean the tank as I normally do (perhaps with rubber gloves though?)?

Should I put the cartidge back in yet, or let the medicine work for longer?

What should I do??

My betta seems even worse now...

The fungus hasn't spread, but he's laying on the gravel, almost on his side, and I don't know what to do.

Can anyone help?

my suggestion would be that it would be better to treat your betta seperately in a quarantine tank. do a massive water change and replace your carbon...thats what id do.

with regards to contamination from the water, maybe use i piece of hose cut to size as a siphon then you can throw it out. prob best to use a bucket or something else disposable if you can.

ive never used wardleys ick away so i dont know how bad it is but just be careful not to digest or touch the stuff if it has a label like that :)
