A while ago whilst visiting a pet shop I saw in the coldwater tanks some unusual and interesting fish.
They were labeled as rice fish and all i can find is the other name for them, medaka.
Has anyone kept them and have any general info on them as i dont even know if they are livebearers or egg scatterers.
I have seen pics on the internet but none of the fish i saw which were grey in colour and had a blue flash to the bottom of the tail going in to the body.
Thanks :)

They carry there eggs in grape like bunches on the underside of there stomach. Genus name is oryzias. There are a few different spieces.

back when i had a pond we had rice fish in it.
they survived all but the coldest of winters outside.

I have now found out that they are the only fish to have been in space
having gone up on a challenger mission.

where did you see these BA?

They were in Dobbies garden centre here in Aberdeen Paul.

I wish i had got some now, really pretty too.

way too far for me;
I've been looking out for these on our import lists but so far no luck.
