Can a stainless steel bolt/screw be kept underwater in an aquarium long term?

Would slate cause any problems with parameters? or any other issues?

TIA

I weigh down plants with stainless steel bolts with no issues for fish or plants. I use slate for my cichlids to spawn on. Again no problems or changes in water parameters.

I use stainless, and slate… there are several grades / formulas of stainless… the ones I have experience with, are food grade

Thanks both of you! Some driftwood has become detached from its weight so I'm planning to drill a small piece of slate and attach a stainless steel screw/bolt to hold it down and straight as its loose at the moment

Stainless has many forms. To be totally safe I'd see if I could find surgical 307c stainless but don't know if you will find in bolt form.

Slate is fine but stay from shale which is an earlier form of slate. While slate is non-porous and inert the same cannot be said about shale.
