I currently have a 100 gall tank stocked with
6 bala sharks
1 rainbow shark
1 redtailed shark
1 sailfin pleco (I think)
4 weather loaches (2 adults and 2 babies)
4 black and white angels

we have one large seaweed looking fake plant drift wood various small green fake plants. light brown sand and crushed coral as the substrate (also like brownish)

my question is how would I go about making it so that my fish dont blend in as well as they do ... make it so they are noticeable and ppl dont think the tank is emptu.... the largest fish is the rainbow at 4 inches. We are also looking for a black shark 4 more balas 2 more angels (koi) 2 african butterfly fish....... as you can see all drab in color. or what is a centerpiece fish that we can add ...... althoug making the stocked fish and the fish tocome pop out more is kinda the idea........how can I do this

You can put a blue backing on the back of your tank. That will show off the fish more. Also you can add brighter tank lights. That will help.

eep! please don't add anymore fish. i'm surprised the red tail and rainbow haven't killed each other. and your tank won't look empty when your balas all get to 12" long (they need a 6ft long tank at that point at least, maybe more for 6 balas, don't know the dimensions on your 100).

leave the stocking as it is and don't add anymore sharks! even in a 100 gallon they will find each other and they don't take kindly to other shark-like fish.

cmon if the largest fish is only 4" the tank is not way overstocked
in a year or two a few adjustments may be necessary but thats it
i wouldnt add anymore balas 6 is a good number
how about a severum for a center piece fish?the rednecks are nice :good:

I agree I wouldn't add anymore fish you are pushing it.
Do you run two filters.
Are your water stats ok.

I always think less is more, you could add another fish and distrupt the whole tank, if they are all happy I would leave it.

My tank is not over stocked at all and I have a 1000 gall tank everyone is moving to when they get too big.
The red tail and the rainbow leave eachother alone (I believe in caves and hidy holes. I only run one filter and water parameters are ammonia Nirate Nirite=0.00ppm
Ph is 7.6 temp is 78
there is NO visible poop or algae
ITS NOT OVERSTOCKED even going by the 5 inch per gallon rule or what ever ......... AND when the fish do get big I have another EMPTY tank at the moment (and yes it is fully cycled I put food in it EVERY DAY) water parameters are the exact same in that one .....

I also test once a day 3 times (3 different tests 2 liquid and one dip) so dont get after me for overstocking

to those who concentrated onthe issue at hand making the fish more visible thank you...... would putting blue substrate in with green plants and a BLACK ??? background the background is just simply to hide the cords... right now it is white. Lighting inthe tank is almost too bright now

dim the lighting and add some plants/wood that reach into the top half of the tank that could help
got any pics of the 1000g?

If you have a 1000g you wouldnt put crappy fish like that in it. Also your not way overstocked people just like to jump on the overstocked bandwagon on here. One thing I would mention though is dont add a black shark they are pure evil I watched on yesterday kick the crap out of a gator gar.

Not sure how you all say he is overstocked, but dont know the dimentions of his tank.

Personally, I wouldn't add anymore, because balas do grow quite quick.

Add a black background, white sand, and have some bright green plants in there and in sure you will be able to see the fish alot better. :good:

I wouldn't say overstocked but pushing it with more fish.
I would rather keep a happy balance in the tank with the fish you have, rather than upsetting it all by more fish.
Seen it happen adding more fish and existing fish not happy, red tailed shark don't seem to like new fish coming in.
Though is your choice at the end of the day.

Then if you cannot isolate new fish you could be fetching something into the tank adding new fish always a gamble when you cannot issolate.

I don't think its possible to have 0 nitrites in a tank, so I would get a new test kit. Sorry to say this but your fish will grow, if you do actually have a 1000 gallon tank then great, but please understand the potential size/habbits of your fish. The bala sharks are skittish and can grow big, so requre big tanks (I would say more than 100g to keep them happily). If you take out the bala and sailfin then your tank will be much better, even get some more suitable fish.

I think you mean 0 nitrate lol.
Its possible if you have a nitrate tap reading of 0, live plants.
