We lost power due to storms from tropical storm Alberto - which says more about our power company than Alberto. (I'm posting from work).

I have a 10 gallon tank with 4 fish. Temperature-wise they should be OK - its at least 72 degrees inside my house all year round.

However, the filter is obviously not working. Should I be doing frequent water changes ? If so, how often ?

And for future reference, whats the longest I could go without a filter and without changing the water ? I know that sounds cruel :/ but water can be severely rationed when a hurricane blows things around.

I would think, since it was only a tropical storm.. that you should have your power on pretty quick.

Not necessarily. Depends on the severity of the storm, I've had T-storms in my area that have knocked power out anywhere form a few hours to a week or moremostly from trees falling. ( I'm rural but with a good size city near and still power has gone out in spots for up to a week ).I think it would depend on digsy's (?) location. I'd look into some kind of battery powered air pump at least or something similar.

Yeah, I know.. I've been through hurricanes (I live in FL), the longest we've been without power here was about 2 weeks.

Maybe you could just put the four fish in seperate small temp. homes for now, and change the water with spring water. I think that's what I would do.
