Hey, I'm looking for white sand, something similar to the looks of this.

This however is specifically meant for reef tanks, but is there any type of aragonite thats safe for freshwater tanks.

Also, is there any other alternatives to aragonite that are very white and small grain? I heard you can go to hardware stores and get certain types of sand for cheap. What could I ask for if I went to one? I'm not keeping Cichilids so I'm not interested in crushed coral.

Thanks, I was looking at play sands because I was told they are alright in fish tanks. Some I was reading though said they weren't aquarium safe. It said 100% silica free. So are the types of sand without silica not safe for aquariums?

erm silica, or more properly silica dioxide (Si02) is perfectly safe for aquariums
it is silicate which couldbe dangerouse depending on the metal that makes up the silicate

I use play sand from Home Depot, it looks very natural. :good: I've had it for about 4 months now.
