In all of the posts about rams, it just talks about pairs and groups. Can a single ram be kept in a community tank, or is it in their best interest to have atleast another ram with it? Thanks. :)

I have a Golden Ram in a ten gallon with a Golden Inca Snail and he seems happy. He had 2 ram tankmates but they died. He may have been partly responsible. I also have a Bolivian Ram in with a tank of White Cloud Mountain Minnows and he schools with them and gets along great. The Golden Ram is alot more interactive with me. He will follow my finger and wiggle when he knows I am going to feed him. In my experience Rams don't get along well with their own kind unless you have a breeding male and female or a large tank so they can sort out territory and even then it can be dicey. Just make sure their tankmates are not overly aggressive or they might get picked on. :)

well.. i think you can keep Rams together in groups just as long as you have the right male/female ratio

I've heard before rams don't do as well by themselves.. But I've never done it before, Just some thing I must have read months back that is still lerkin in the back on my head. :fish:

I have a 65 gallon tank...how would two pairs do? I think I read somewhere that the females have bright red bellies...is this true? If the two pairs couldn't work in the 65 gallon, would a ten gallon be large enough for one pair?

I just love the rams....but are they really hard to take are of? I've read in a few places that they are really oversensitive, especially the gold rams....has this been your guys' experiences?

It really all depends on the fish as to weather or not they will get along in even that big a tank. If you have plenty of hiding places and its decently planted, you may not have a problem. I had two pairs in a 20 and they were fighting really bad, put one pair in my 10. Then I got my 55 and thought well they shouldn't have a problem in here! Boy was I wrong. My stronger pair (the one I have now) was attacking the other ones still. Pretty bad. You could give it a try, but just be prepared to take one pair out.

As far as are they easy to take care of? Well for some people they are and for some people they aren't. They are very sensitive fish. Personally I dont think they are difficult. Just do your regular water changes, make sure you treat your water (Stress coat or whatever you use) and keep an eye on your parameters.
