Hi All,

Just wondeing if anyone had been to the London Aquarium recently. I am thinking of going some time this week.

Rich

I went last october - took the kids

Thoroughly enjoyed it.

Not entirelt certain about keeping ocean dwellers like the sharks in a tank, but then again if I was that sensitive to captive animals i wouldn't own a fish tank!

The London Aquarium is good, though expensive.

The main problem with it is that as far as information goes, it sucks majorly. Apart from a few small labels telling you what the fishes on display are, there's nothing on ecology, behaviour, or physology. From an educational perspective, the place gets 1 out of 10. I think they rely more on having "explainers" lead tours and such, which is fine, but mostly you see people looking at fishes swimming about but not actually learning anything. As someone into fish, I find that hugely frustrating.

On the plus side, the brackish water display is fun, and the smaller coldwater tanks especially are very inspirational. Be sure and bring your camera.

Cheers,

Neale

Could someone tell me where about this is? and also how much please? Thank you

If you're up the other end of the country, i can recommend the Blue Reef aquarium at Walls End in Tynemouth. They have varied displays of fish, inverts, and a large walk though reef tank with the sharks and rays swiming above you! very cool.

There is information about the fish and habitats around the aquarium, they also sell guide books that have more information about marine ecology, a spotters guide, with scientific names, and even mentions the use of Cyanide!!!! for catching marine fish which i didn't know about!

last time i went to London Aquarium was May this year
the tanks were grubby, the signs...weren't there
the seahorses and the octopus had mysteriously disappeared, nowhere to be seen, and they had a major MTS invasion!

Check out their web site:

http://www.londonaquarium.co.uk

As I recall, the price is around £12 per adult. There are various discounts for kids, OAPs, students, etc. Also check your local railway station There is a leaflet called "2 for 1" or something that have little coupons that, as you can guess, let you get two tickets for the price of one -- if you go by train, of course. I know the London Zoo is on this scheme, but I think the Aquarium is, too.

Oh, and the London Aquarium is on the South Bank, in the old GLC building, very close to the London Eye. Nearest tubes are Westminster and Waterloo, I think.

Cheers,

Neale

Come to the Blue Planet Aquarium in Chester this Saturday!

Much better!

I went around the same time as catxx & also found it a bit of a let down considering the press it gets. It wasn't all bad there were some nice tanks just many had no or incorrect signs, also there seemed to be several tanks with fish showing signs of injuries & other various ailments.

Hi All,

Just wondeing if anyone had been to the London Aquarium recently. I am thinking of going some time this week.

I've never been to the London one but just for the record the national marine aquarium in Plymouth is well worth a visit. If you collect Tesco clubcard vouchers you can use them on days out and I've saved a fortune using mine at some of the aquariums. My family got into Plymouth last month for £7.50 worth of vouchers instead of the normal £25 entrance (for a family of 3)

i went to London Zoo a few weeks ago, the aquarium there was better than London Aquarium! only 2 tanks were out for maintenance, and lots of healthy fish. tanks are smaller there though.

Cheaper than most other's too.

The aquarium in London zoo isn't half bad - a bit on the small side though.
