Hey all,
Well I've finally got my new tank sorted. I went for a Aqua one aquastart 900 in the end. Yes it is bow fronted but I don't think it is as bow fronted as some of them are. It doesn't seem to be affecting the filter pipework or distorting them but we shall see how we go. It's got a canister filter, I think it was a 200W heater and marine and sunlight lights built into the lid with a timer so I can control the light situation better. I'm now missing an arm and leg due to the cost but I know it will be well worth it when its properly set up.

I know some won't be keen on the substrate, pink/purple gravel its not natural but I like it so thats the main thing. I was advised to put in 1.5cm worth but this looks too little, (working on the fact if the fish shop I was in wanted to make money surely would have sold me more) I'm tempted to add some more, or do people think this is enough?
Plants will be added but will probably have to wait til next weekend when I can get out again. Basically to cut a long story short, I have lost faith in my LFS in Huddersfield, there is another in Hebden Bridge but he is very small so I don't tend to go there very often. So I went on a search of the t'internet for more fish shops in Yorkshire. Turns out one called Ferrybridge aquatics, which yes you guessed it is in Ferrybridge close to the M62 has won a lot of awards. http
/www.ferrybridge-aquatics.co.uk/ - Linkage for people interested. And it literally was a treasure trove packed into nothing more than small shop on a highstreet. All sorts of different types of fish and pieces of driftwood (which yes I do have a piece for free which is soaking to lose its orange glow!) also every type of chemical you may need. It's also a marine specialist shop, which is good to know as I would love a marine tank also one day. But the plants there were amazing. It's definitely worth the trip just for them. I don't think I've ever seen such healthy plants.
So far I have only put stress coat and stress zyme in. Tomorrow I think I will add some seachem stability in as well. I think someone told me that stress zyme had ammonia in it. Although I don't think this is true is there anything else I need to add in, other than obviously ammonia? If it is false and stress zyme doesn't contain ammonia. I need to remember to look at the ammonia calculator to work out my dosage. It's a 165l tank but I can't for the life in me remember how to work it out
Also thinking ahead on fish. I'm thinking but prepared to be shot down over, maybe some angels/golden or kissing gourami, I'm pretty sure I can't have both. Then I get stuck, I'm thinking maybe a catfish or clown loaches I know not both of those. Some rasboras either harlequin or cherry maybe both. If anyone has some suggestions please feel free, also what would be a good hardy fish to first introduce, I know it will probably be a few weeks before I get to this stage but I like to be prepared.
So my questions were does 1.5cm of substrate seem enough or add more, also do I need to add anything other than ammonia as I'm pretty sure stress zyme doesn't contain it and finally stocking suggestions - I shall be looking through other peoples stocks to get some ideas as well so look out
. Hopefully I shall start out with some numbers later in the week.
Thanks in advance for allowing me to pick you brains.
