I have found hundreds of these little bugs jumping on the water surface in my tank. There less than 1mm. Does anyone know how to get rid of them?

Non of my fishes eat them because I think the bugs are soo small my fishes cant see them. I cant really destribe them because they are so small. All i can see are little gray things jumping around in my tank.

do you always have your tank hood on?

I think they are spring tails from the discription on the website that you gave me Rob. Thanks a lot for the help.

Does anyone know how do get rid of those bugs?

Most insectisides are fatal to fish. For some reason, most toxins used against insects will also have a tremendous effect on fish, this is something my dad has personally done research on (he was in ICI) so i'll take his word for it.

Also, i highly doubt springtails can stay afloat/jump on water?

Ive had these things on my tank too, hundereds of them. Cant say Ive checked recently to see if they are still there but woudn't surprise me. Haven't a clue how they got there or how to get rid of them. I did spend a good hour squashing as many as I could see but not sure if it worked or not.

They stay afloat because they are so tiny and the surface water tention is strong enough to hold them up.

I have had these for a long time. They dont seem to have any ill effects on the fish - may even provide a tasty snack for the fish.
