Dog, I have large slabs of limestone in my tank for the base of my reef, but from there I would get some base rock, and still have at least half of my rock volume be good quality live stuff.

Cultured live rock is often limestone. True live rock is acually pieces of reef that are composed primarily of dead coral and are mostly calcium. The composition of both are close, but limestone is pretty smooth and does not culture as well and is less porous, meaning it does not have as much surface area as a good piece of reef.
