Short question:
I have a brackish tank, 55g, with some fig 8 puffers, red chromides, mollies, and bumble bee gobys, no plants, and I'm trying to figure out what light would make my tank look best and would also be healthiest for the fish.
Long question:
My setup is as follows -
55g Main Tank:
5 Fig 8 Puffers
12 Red Chromides
2 Mollies
1 Mystery Goby
12 or so Bumble Bee Gobys
29g Sump:
12 or so Red Cherry Shrimp
2 Ghost Shrimp
Tons of pond snails and mts
Java Fern
Java Moss
Lots of green hair algae (I try to promote its growth)
Anuibas
Pond plant covering the surface of the tank (looks like 2mm diameter lily pads)
So basically all my plant growth is done in the sump. I tried it up in the main tank but my puffers ate every plant I put in there. Omnivores, indeed.
That being said, I don't mind cleaning the glass once a week, and I kind of like the green algae covered/aged type look I've got going in the tank now.

The light I had for growing plants died on me a couple days ago and I've temporarily replaced it with a stock bulb. It's got a greenish hue and just makes the whole tank look depressing. I can't imagine it's got much good light for the fish either.
So, I'm looking for a decent 48" fluorescent bulb that will be good for my fish, will make the tank look good, and I basically don't care if it grows plants. If it does, more power to it, but if it doesn't I'll live.
I'm not sure how the light requirements for brackish fish differ from those of standard tropical or standard marine so I figured I'd post here. Any help will be appreciated!
