Hi there,

After helping my girlfriend with her 75l tank she bought me a 35 l for xmas which is nearly cycled.

I have been looking forward to getting my own fish for a while but I feel somewhat frustrated now.

Obviously due to the limited size available I can only keep certain fish and have the following options. I will also list the pro's and con's.

I am tryin gto avoid the usual community fish because thats what my g.f has.

Option 1) 3x dwarf puffers and 2 otto's
Pro's - Something a little different, load of character.
Con's - Low number of fish in the tank and they could kill each other as they get older. Diffucult to identify sex until they are older and could end up with a load of males.

Option 2) 1x pair Apisto's + a few tetra's
Pro's - really cool fish, Tetra's are really nice, something a bit different, loads of character (the fish I really want)
Con's - tank is a little small for these fish, could have aggression problems when spawning.

Option 3) Small community tank
Pro's - easy to look after (ish) and reasonable hardy, lots of variety including pygmy cory's which I like.
Con's - a bit girly for my liking, I am not sure I would be satisfied with them.

Can everyone else have a look and let me know what they think because I am getting a bit stressed out with it all. I would love a larger tank but I live with my parents and they don't want one.

thanks

other suggestions:

peacock gobies, should be room for one male and a small harem of 2-3 females

coldwater tank with desert goby/ies

heterandria formosa (I'm a livebearer freak)

African dwarf frogs

shrimps- IMO some of the coolest creatures on the planet, totally underestimated when it comes to character

there MUST be killifish that fit the bill- nothing girlie about killifish

you might JUST be able to squeeze in a pair of shellies (nothing else) and have an African lake tank (neolamprologus multifasciatus, tough little things, but do ask in the cichlids forum first for size of tank)

Get a shoal of Microrasbora Galaxy, and Cherry Shrimps or Crystal red shrimps

Maybe a pair of Pseudoepiplatys annulatus they are a small killifish
