i noticed one of my female guppies looked pregnant when i purchased her and added her to my tank, a day later before i could seperate her i noticed she'd obviously given birth to them so i searched my tank with a sharp eye but couldnt see any fry so i guess they must have been all eaten by the other fish, then about a week later i saw two babies swimming round the bottom of my bogwood i was so surprised because most of my fish pick every nook and cranny of the bogwood for scraps of food after being fed and would of thought they would have snapped them up too! now almost four weeks later they are still alive and well swimming all around the tank and the other fish dont even bother them, amazing huh life does always seem too find a way!

any one had this before i'd like too hear your experinces

thanks for reading
:D

You mentioned that you thought the guppy looked pregnant when you bought her. Female guppies are always pregnant unless thay haven't been in a tank with a male in 3 to 6 months. As you mentioned though, if you have hiding places, some will always survive being eaten.

oh right thanks 4 the advice, at my local fish shop they always in seperate tanks but now u said that i understand what u saying :good:

Female livebearers can store sperm. Some say for up to 6 months so even if they haven't been in a tank with a male for a while they can still have fry. That's probably why they keep them seperate.

whoa didnt know that cool info cheers mate :D

shame mine get snapped up so fast ...
Same with me!! I gotta catch them very quickly, the only way I get any fry is if I catch the female while giving birth (or a couple of minutes after she gave birth) and catch the fry then, or if I have a spare tank and move a pregnant female in there and wait for her to give birth (although a couple still get eaten).
