Somewhere else, as I am banned...
It was Friday the 13th, but unfazed I decided that with all my shiny new regulator parts and a full twinset, it was time to get it in the open water. Leybourne Water in Kent was chosen as a suitable muddy puddle reaching 8 metres.

As can be seen from the surface shots it was a fairly nice day; perfect for cooking in drysuits before getting in, especially as Steve (my buddy) was trying out his new Fourth Element undersuit.

We were told by a couple of divers just getting out that the viz was pretty bad. Going down it was not too bad when you were up close:

But get about 2 or 3 metres away...

Moving off, I think someone has managed to flood their engine:

In the shallows it looked quite nice

But if you finned the bottom (or dug into it with your hands like Steve did, not sure why as we were hunting pike which aren't renowned for hiding underneath the substrate) it soon got a bit nasty:

The bottom had a strange effect where the last metre or so was shrouded in a "mist". Our only potential thought was that maybe the earlier divers had kicked up the bottom and it was settling. Whatever, it was quite cool.

We found no pike, only some small shoals of fry and a couple of perch. Oh, and a dead eel:

I can only assume that the chavs beat us here

I managed to get another shot of Steve on a platform...

but he was pulling a pose so I moved back to get him all in and he faded off into the gloom. Thank god he had a bright yellow box on his back...

There was a huge amount of oxygenating weed growing throughout the lake, at times it was like swimming through a forest

Of course this growth did allow us to play hide and seek while clocking up our 60 minutes underwater

And a shot of me, shiny new regs, zeagle jacket and drysuit and all!

And the parting comment someone left for us informing us that this car was not an Italian supercar.

The dive went really well, everything worked fine. I did a couple of shut down drills nicley, so the next stop is the Farne Islands next Saturday for a week.

Great pics Andy, looking forward to the next set. :good:

 Eeeew green water, most of the puddles ooop t'north have cleared now, still I suppose with twinsets and YBODs you're better off staying in 8m and close to one of the pots ;)

Farnes should be stunning next week :good: Just got back from a weekend up the road in St Abbs and the viz was upto 15m and the forecast is for almost no wind this week so it should get even better. Will post a thread later after I've washed all my kit down  .

I'd rather be near somewhere that doesn't require a walk in full kit from the car to the water's edge. I was dripiing sweat by the time I got in.

However, in good news, the wife and I have effectively finished Sports Diver now after doing the rescue work at Gildy on Saturday (where they have "ruined" a 6m platform by dumping a pool table on it, complete with balls and cues). Just need to collar some instructors to sign a couple of bits on Friday night and I am done.

Now, where's that TDI price list... ;)

HERE ;)

This guy is meant to be excellent, I might even be taking one of his courses myself. The people on the diving forum I'm on have nothing but good things to say about him.

Harsh prices!

I think I'll stay in BSAC until I get myself a box. Similar courses but for a fraction of the cost.

Or, the best method, find a BSAC instructor who is also a TDI diver who will give both cards for about £50 more than a BSAC course cost.

In all honesty I am not too sure on whether to do much OC deep training, or whether to just save and get a box, saving on having to learn trimix on OC and then learn it again on the box.
