Hi,
Wouldn't it be really cool to have a tank with a leopard ctenapoma and a massive colony of feeder fish?!
What is the minimum tank size for this fish? i would also like some background info/ expiriences with these fish.

THANKS!!!!!!!!!!

I have 2 in a rio125 with other fish and have yet to see one being eaten by them, if you are planning on feeder fish in the tank then make sure that they are small enough for the bush fish.

Just remember that the bush fish does get to grow to around 6 inches and their mouths when fully grown can yawn open quite a bit.

I have a similar vision for a tank to what you have, I think.

My idea was to have the largest tank I could find (I was thinking 6ft+) and set it up 'naturally' for south american leaf fish. By this I mean a sandy substrate, tons of bogwood and planted. Then what I would do is put in small livebearers such as guppies (or a similar biotope fish) let the colony establish itself so I had a mass of guppies, then introduce a leaf fish. It would be like watching nature in your living room, I would only feed the guppies occasionally, and the leaf fish would predate on the guppies and in theory have a balanced population - well thats the way it would work in my head, and I would watch the leaf fish drift around the tank.

thats my idea exactly shroob, only with leopard bush fish instead of leaf fish.

The minimum recommended tank size is 200l

If you get small Ctenopona they will probable ignore the feeder fish

I have 3 small ones and they have never shown any interest in the smaller fish in my tank and are quite happy eating flake & pellets supplemented with frozen foods

I don't know how practical my idea would be, I think you'd need a large tank to have enough 'food' fish/shrimp just to support 1 ctenopoma. Then theres the added problem of diet, would the ctenopoma get enough nutrients/vitamins from the fish - even if you were feeding the guppies/shrimp quality food as to gut load them I'd be wary about the ctenopoma getting a balanced diet.

yeah good points -_-

I'll most likely just get a community tank for some exotic fish.
