Length Of Fishless Cycle

i am doing the 'add and wait' method of fishless cycling described on this site, without seeding the tank.

so far it's been 1.5 weeks and the ammonia hasn't dropped from 5ppm.

is this normal? how long should it take before i see ammonia drop to 0?

I was doing the same thing and it took a month for mine to fully cycle.
