Lava Rock Substrate

How do you guys think or know how small crushed lava rock would work as a substrate in a cichlid aquarium. On the same note how would it work as a filter media too since its real pouris. thanks

I've used it in cichlid tanks and it works fine. As far as filter media goes I wouldn't know.

i would have thought that as a filter media it would be just like ceramic rings

i think it would look great as a substrate but dont think it would stay looking nice for long like you said its very porus
